Technical Director / Motion Designer | California Academy of Sciences **January 2012 - Present
Since 2011 I've worked on 7 award-winning computer animated planetarium films which are distributed globally and play in over 200 planetariums across 25 countries. In addition to those large-scale, multi-year projects I've worked on countless museum exhibits, educational video series, and other short-term, fast-turnaround marketing materials. As a generalist I've rigged and animated dozens of realistic creatures using Maya. I have lead the design and execution of the motion graphics across all our films post 2011. I have lead our small team of 8-10 artists as Visual Effects Supervisor on our 2019 film Big Astronomy which included on-location filming in the mountains of Chile, and I'm currently leading our upcoming production. My skillset is broad. I’m comfortable storyboarding and designing, editing and animating motion graphics videos from initial briefing through to project delivery. I'm well versed in After Effects, Premier, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I can pick up new software very quickly. I love collaborating with a tight-knit team, and I'm also very comfortable working across a large organization with cross-functional teams. I have demonstrated a rare aptitude for being exceptionally creative while also being very technically savvy. This combination of skills allows me to confidently jump into any project and readily solve novel problems with innovative solutions.
Motion Designer / 3d Animator | Freelance **Jan 2011 - Present
Over the years I have contributed to many freelance projects for clients like Elastic, UCSF, & Snyk. Often these are motion graphics projects which are executed in After Effects. Others involve more 3D animation in Houdini, Maya, and Blender. On many projects I lead the entire project from start to finish including building the storyboards, defining the design direction, building the assets, animating, rendering and delivering the final project. Success on these projects requires me to listen carefully to the clients needs and come up with solutions which will fit their requirements, all the while being flexible and nimble enough to adjust to their feedback or input from other stakeholders.
Motion Designer | Teak **April 2006 - December 2011
Teak is a branding and design agency where I began my career back in 2006. I worked directly with many clients like Google, Electronic Arts, Sony, and JanSport as well as with many advertising agencies like Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, Y&R, McCann, and Venables Bell and Partners. Beginning as an intern out of college, I quickly proved myself as an assistant editor, editor and eventually landed myself in the animation department. I helped design and plan many projects and lead teams of artists in the execution of launch videos, product campaigns, and other advertising initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
